Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to respectfully request clarification regarding recent public statements made by the Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Hristijan Mickoski, concerning the planned highway section Trebenishtë – Strugë – Qafë Thanë, which forms part of Corridor VIII.
According to the Prime Minister, this infrastructure project may not be realized in its current form due to the route passing through an area protected by UNESCO. He further indicated that potential changes to the route are being considered, allegedly due to UNESCO-related constraints, although no final decision has yet been made.
Given the public importance of this matter and its potential impact on infrastructure development and environmental protection, I kindly request confirmation on the following points:
- Has UNESCO officially raised concerns or objections regarding the proposed route of this highway project?
- Is the area in question formally designated as a UNESCO-protected site or buffer zone, and if so, what specific restrictions apply?
- Has UNESCO communicated any recommendations or requirements to the authorities of North Macedonia concerning this project?
Accurate information from your institution would greatly contribute to public transparency and informed discussion on this issue.
Thank you in advance for your time and consideration. I look forward to your response.
Yours faithfully,
Mesut Shabani nr contact++38970519504
